I assume one reason this is not automatically turned on in all AV's is that if you had a small business, you'd have more than one PC mapped to the same drive, and if all of them run scans at the same time, it would be a problem. It is just that some other NAS like Synology have options to use the out-of-the-box AV or subscribe to AV from the box (I think is MacAfee).
